How to Create A Simple Holiday Table Setting

Last weekend I kicked off my holiday season by hosting a Friendsgiving dinner at my house. I absolutely LOVE dinner parties for the sole purpose of getting to decorate my dinner table. Our dining room is in the center of our home, so when it looks cute I feel like our whole house looks cute! And that puts me in such a good mood for some reason.

My mantra when it comes to designing a holiday tablescape is keep it simple! I've been slowly collecting my dinner party staples that will work for any occasion. Here's a breakdown on the pieces I used to create this minimal and timeless holiday table setting:

First, let’s talk table linens

I use a white linen tablecloth and grey linen napkins for every. single. dinner party. period.

The colors are classic and neutral so they can be mixed and matched with any color scheme for the holidays. One thing about linen, the fabric will never look crisp and sharp. I usually throw my linens in the dryer on the wrinkle release setting before setting them out. The fabric will still have tiny wrinkles, but isn't that part of linen's charm?

Now for some plates & silverware

My plates are the Mercer Collection from Crate and Barrel and the flatware is Vera Wang from Macys.

These plates double as our everyday plates and fancy dinner plates. I love the flat shape and hand formed looking surface. It's both modern and rustic! Our gold flatware is hand wash only, so we only bring it out when we're feeling fancy. The polished gold finish really pops against the white tablecloth and plates!

Glasses, my obsession and collection continue to grow

Water glass is Duralex, goblet is a Home Goods find, but these are pretty similar.

Once again, we’re using our everyday Duralex drinking glasses for this dinner table set up. The goblets I’m pretty sure are supposed to be for water as well, but hey they make cute wine glasses too! They have a french provincial look to them and I just love mixing a little vintage vibes with my more modern pieces.

And now things get really fun…centerpieces!

Vintage brass candle holders from etsy.

Since I use the same linens, plates, and glasses for every dinner, the center piece is where I try different things to make the table more festive. This year I got these vintage brass candle holders from Etsy that add some nice height to the table setting. And instead of doing one big center piece, I opted for a handful of small vases filled with red daises and eucalyptus leaves. I didn't want to clutter the table with too many decorative items so that there would be lots of space to pass around the food.
