Kim Tried Collagen Supplements for 30 Days

Next week I'm turning 30 and I'm pretty excited about entering into this new decade of life! With any milestone birthday I always take a moment to think about where I want to go in the next year or so. For next year my plan is to focus on setting daily routines that promote my overall health and wellbeing. I feel like the older you get, the harder it is to make lifestyle changes. So I'd better start now!

To kickstart this goal of mine, I did a 30 day #WayToBloom challenge in partnership with Just Bloom, a company that makes collagen powders. Now, if you aren't aware of the collagen craze I'll give you a little summary of my various google searches. Collagen is a protein that our bodies naturally produce - the older we get, the less of it we produce. Collagen supplements (powders, serums, creams and the like) have become quite popular as taking them has shown positive benefits such as anti-aging for skin, strengthening hair and nails, heart health, and joint pain. For the challenge I drank 10 grams, that's 2 of their peptide packets per day for 30 days straight. Curious about my experience? Read on!

Day 1:

I chose the Mango Mojito flavored Collagen powder to drink for 30 days. I wouldn't say it tasted like a mojito, but it did have a slightly sweet mango taste to it. At the start of the challenge I had high hopes for seeing improved skin elasticity and hydration. I've been a skincare fanatic for years now and I like to think all my serums, masks, and moisturizers are the reason why I'm still getting carded at restaurants, and on the rare occasion at R rated movies! With the inclusion of collagen to my skincare regimen I wanted to keep any signs of aging at bay.

Day 15:

Halfway through the challenge I noticed my nails were much stronger, like Wonder Woman strong! I had even started growing them out on day 1 and by day 15 they were the longest my nails had ever been. My skin also felt well moisturized (I stopped using some of my heavier moisturizers for this challenge) despite the cold weather, which usually makes my skin dry and tight.

Day 30:

Here we are at the end of the challenge! The nails are still long and strong. I even went to get a manicure a few days ago and the ladies at the salon commented on how strong my nails were. Besides the nails, my skin is feeling hydrated and bouncy. I'm not seeing any visible changes with my skin, but then again I don't really have any fine lines or wrinkles to reduce.

Final Thoughts:

I really enjoyed participating in the #WaytoBloom 30 day challenge and will continue to drink collagen specifically for preventing signs of aging. The most noticeable change by far was with my nails. The changes to my skin were quite subtle and I might not have noticed anything at all if I weren't paying close attention to document things for this blog post. It was also surprisingly easy to commit to drinking 2 packs of collagen a day. Towards the end I even started mixing one collagen packet into a full water bottle to dilute the sweet flavor, in a roundabout way this also helped me focus on hydration too, bonus!
