5 Tips for Shopping Thrifted Blazers

Blazers are the hero piece we can't live without in the fall. We wear them with jeans, we wear them with skirts, we wear them with dresses... well, you get the idea. It makes sense that we have an ever increasing collection of blazers in our closets and our favorite place to find them is thrift stores! Thrifted blazers are so affordable (we probably haven't paid more than $25 for one), and with the right eye you can find high quality ones that fit perfectly. Here are the top 5 things we look for when shopping thrifted blazers:

01. An oversized fit.
In the women's section, we head straight for the larger sizes (10-14). We've also been known to shop the men's section too! A good length to look for on a blazer is one that falls anywhere between mid thumb and fingertips.

02. Neutral colors.
We're not just saying this because we're obsessed with neutral color palettes right now. Black, grey, chocolate brown, and camel brown will always be classic colors. Choosing a blazer in one of these colors will help the piece look more modern when it comes time to styling it with items you already own.

03. Menswear patterns.
Along those same lines, if we're going to go for patterned blazer we look for classic menswear patterns like plaid and pinstripe only.

04. Shoulder pads.
Yes, you read that right, we actually like shoulder pads in our blazers! It helps give the blazer shape and adds to the power dressing type vibe. The trick is that the shoulder pads and shoulder seam has to end where your actual shoulder ends.

05. Thick fabrics.
Because it's fall and the weather is chilly, we love finding blazers in thicker warmer fabrics. Wool is always a winner, but we've found nice polyester blazers too.
