Kathleen’s Sweater Styling Tips

Stuck in a styling rut with your sweaters? I've got a few styling tips to help get you up out of that rut.

1. Go for the bold.

Try a bold colored sweater and pair it with a bold print. I paired this neon green sweater with trendy snake skin boots. A plaid, checked or any animal print would work just as well.

2. Monochrome is magic.

It may seem counter intuitive, but a monochromatic look can be anything but boring. Pair your sweater with bottoms of the same color and even accessories to! I paired my black sweater with high waisted black jeans, a black belt bag and black hat. This checked coat gives my outfit a little pop of color and some contrast to the all back look.

3. Crop it like it's hot.

I think the best compliment to any high waisted skirt is a nice cropped sweater. I coupled my green cropped sweater with a high waisted pleated skirt. A nude cross body bag was a perfect accessory to this busy skirt. I kept this look casual with white dad sneakers, but black heeled ankle boots are another great option.

4. Easy like Sunday morning.

Sweaters are perfect for dressing down, and I mean way down. Nothing is better than a relaxing morning in a comfy sweater with a good cup of tea or coffee. An oversized sweater and well fitting joggers is what I live in when I'm at home. This blush colored chunky knit sweater goes perfectly with my colorful side striped joggers. Just throw on a pair of sneakers if you need to run out of the house for a coffee, or to take the dog out.

5. Slouchy can be chic.

For a casual, lived in look, make your sweaters as slouchy as possible. If your sweater has a deep V or wide neck, try exposing a shoulder. This gives you the "looking cute without trying" look. I took this twisted front sweater and pulled it over my shoulders. Add a pair of mom jeans and some combat boots and bam! instant chic.
